Trip.com reports that searches for first and business class flights rose 99% year-over-year in the first half of 2026, while searches for five-star hotels increased by 57%. Premium travelers are now staying 14 days or longer per trip, marking a significant shift from previous averages.
According to Live and Let's Fly, this trend is indicative of a growing preference for premium travel experiences. The report highlights that premium economy is currently where airlines are making their profits, leading to a strategic shift by major carriers like Delta and United to add more business and premium economy seats while reducing economy class offerings.
Live and Let's Fly notes that the most intriguing data point is the longer trip lengths, with more than 40% of second-half premium bookings heading to long-haul destinations. This suggests a shift towards more luxurious and extended travel experiences.
Hotels are also seeing a similar trend, with searches for five-star properties rising significantly while the middle market remains relatively unchanged.
