In his address, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the Gospel parable of the vineyard workers, emphasizing God’s generosity and the importance of forgiveness.

Pope Leo XIV also highlighted the importance of historical memory, urging the faithful to learn from the past and to spread the Gospel of mercy, consolation, and peace.

The pope used his remarks to emphasize the need for international assistance to Somalia, where violence and extreme weather are worsening an already severe humanitarian crisis, particularly for women and children.

Pope Leo XIV’s address also included a call for the faithful to abandon their warped ways and return to the Lord, who is mercy and forgiveness.

Pope Leo XIV’s first book of his writings before he became pope was published in English on Tuesday, a collection of his homilies, messages, and addresses from his 12 years as the head of the Augustinian Order.

• Speaking in English after praying the Angelus with the faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square on Sept. 13, the pope recalled the 25th anniversary of the attacks, which was observed two days earlier.
• “Two days ago marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States of America. I renew my prayers for those who lost their lives and for those who continue to bear the wounds of that tragic day.
