Davey also urged the government to cancel a scheduled permanent increase in fuel duty set to take effect in January.
Fuel duty was frozen under the Conservative government in March 2022, and the Labour government under Sir Keir Starmer extended this freeze, postponing a planned 3p increase in September until the end of the year.
According to the Lib Dems, a 10p cut in fuel duty would result in a 12p reduction per litre at the pump.
Davey argued that supporting drivers with a temporary three-month fuel duty cut would stimulate the economy and essentially pay for itself.
