Keenan Allen, the Indianapolis Colts' wide receiver, is facing a minimum three-game suspension from the NFL following his drunk driving arrest earlier this month, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Allen was formally charged with two misdemeanor offenses stemming from the incident.
The 34-year-old Allen joined the Colts on a one-year deal in August, and his arrest occurred in downtown Indianapolis. Police recorded his blood-alcohol level at 0.224, nearly three times Indiana's legal limit of 0.08.
The NFL’s collective bargaining agreement mandates a minimum three-game suspension for players involved in drunk driving incidents. However, the league could impose a longer suspension if the player's intoxication level was higher, as was the case with Allen.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen told reporters that the team is allowing the legal process to play out. Allen is not expected to miss playing time while his case moves through the court system.
