Kelsey Mitchell set a new WNBA single-season scoring record with 1,034 points, but she was unaware of the achievement until a postgame celebration.

Mitchell scored 33 points in Indiana's 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo, surpassing A'ja Wilson's previous record of 1,021 points set in 2024.

The Fever star didn't learn about the record until seven minutes after the game, during her postgame interview.

Upon entering the locker room, confetti rained down, and Mitchell initially thought it was for her coach, Stephanie White, hitting a milestone.

Caitlin Clark, who recorded 28 points and 14 assists, praised Mitchell's performance, saying, 'I don't think people realize what she has done this year and how insane it's been.

Clark added, 'It's probably not talked about enough, especially in my opinion.

Mitchell's 3-pointer in the third quarter secured the record, and she also set a new franchise single-season 3-point record with 128.

This marks the 20th time this season that both Mitchell and Clark have scored 20 or more points in a game.

Mitchell extended her WNBA record of scoring at least 20 points for 25 consecutive games.

Coach Stephanie White commended Mitchell's historic season, saying, 'She’s playing at another level and it’s been really incredible to witness.

What this adds

The celebration was unexpected for Mitchell, who only found out about the record during her postgame interview.
