Tyler Perry, the filmmaker behind 'Why Did I Get Married,' has declared marriage 'not a good idea' for him, according to interviews with Essence and Eurweb.
Perry explained his change of heart during a promotion for 'Why Did I Get Married, Again?' He said, 'When I wrote the first one, I thought marriage might be a good idea. At this age, no, that’s not a good idea for me.
Perry joked that watching his own movie turned him off from marriage. He also noted that he doesn’t really date, making it easier to share his lack of interest.
Perry emphasized that it's not marriage itself that bothers him but the potential for divorce. He said, 'It’s not the marriage that bothers me, it’s the divorce,' pointing out that financially successful people he knows lost wealth after divorces.
Tyler Perry has never been married but has had a long-term relationship with Gelila Bekele, with whom he shares a son. His latest film, 'Why Did I Get Married, Again?' reunites many original characters as another generation prepares for marriage.
