Three arrests were made during an anti-migrant protest in Portsmouth after police used new powers to restrict face coverings, following violent clashes between protesters and police last weekend.
A 76-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of concealing his identity, while a 33-year-old man from Portsmouth was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a highway.
A 16-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of violent disorder in relation to violent public disorder at Eastney Marina last Sunday.
According to protest conditions, demonstrators must follow a particular route and Portsmouth Patriots and other aligned groups were allocated a specific location to gather near the starting point.
Police confirmed that the new powers under the Crime and Policing Act came into effect at 10:00 BST, aimed at preventing violence, intimidation, and disorder following protests in the city over the past week.
One man was detained on suspicion of concealing his identity under these new police powers, despite warnings that wearing face coverings could lead to arrest.
