Russian Glide Bomb Attack Kills 15 in Zaporizhzhia
Confirmed
In Short: At least 15 people, including three children, were killed in a Russian glide bomb attack on Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine.

Russian forces struck the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia with five guided glide bombs on Saturday, killing at least 15 people, including three children, according to Ukrainian officials.
The attack occurred near a public transport stop where passengers were inside a bus, according to Mykhailo Semikin, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.
The Russian strike targeted a minibus carrying civilians, said Mykola Lukashuk, head of the Dnipropetrovsk region council, describing the incident as a cynical attack on people going about their daily business.
In addition to the fatalities, at least seven others were injured in the attack, bringing the total number of casualties to 22.
The Russian attack on Zaporizhzhia came as part of a broader wave of strikes across Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stating that 13 other regions in Ukraine were also attacked overnight.
Acting Mayor Regina Kharchenko told Ukrainian television that the ground floor of several buildings was hit, causing floors above to collapse, trapping civilians under the rubble.
The attack on Zaporizhzhia, which sits on the opposite bank of the Dnipro river from the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, occupied by Russian troops since the war began, has drawn condemnation from Ukrainian officials.
Ukrainian officials have also reported that Russian forces launched 890 strikes on 49 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region the day before the attack.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities reported that a Russian military officer was killed in a targeted attack in Sevastopol, Crimea, and a woman has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out the attack.
There was no immediate comment from Russia on the attack on Zaporizhzhia, despite the severity of the casualties.
In the first six months of 2026, at least 1,396 civilians were killed and 7,978 others wounded in Ukraine, according to the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, marking a 37 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
The UN mission also noted that at least 250 civilians were killed and 1,596 others injured in Ukrainian attacks inside Russia during the same period, a 121 percent increase in civilian casualties compared with the previous year.
