Russian forces launched a missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight from September 16 to 17, injuring at least 19 people, including two children, and damaging several facilities, according to reports.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 18 people were injured in the city, including two children. The Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office reported that a school, a lyceum, a gas station, and a railway station were among the damaged facilities.
The attack involved ballistic and cruise missiles, Shahed-type one-way attack drones, and decoys. At least 10 explosions were heard across Kyiv within several minutes early Thursday as Russia launched a massive attack on the Ukrainian capital.
In addition to the injuries in Kyiv, at least seven people, including two children, were injured in Odesa, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said. Explosions rocked Kyiv's city center beginning around 12:30 a.m. local time, with a subsequent drone attack causing a fire in an administrative building in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district.
According to preliminary data, as of 8 a.m., air defense forces had shot down or neutralized 131 targets: seven ‘Banderol’/‘Dan-T’ drones and 124 UAVs, including Shahed- and Gerbera-type drones, as well as other models. The attacks were recorded at more than 10 locations in the city while 33 sites were damaged in the wider region.
