Grammy-nominated singer and Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik is hospitalized in critical but stable condition, according to a statement posted by his family on Instagram. The latest news comes just before the opening of his new musical adaptation, Memoirs of Amorous Gentleman, a manga novel adaptation for which he wrote the score. The off-Broadway show is slated to open on October 15 at the Night Egg at the Culture Club.

Sheik's family shared an update on his condition, stating, 'We would like to share an update with Duncan’s fans and the public.' Out of respect for Sheik and his family, no further medical details are being shared at this time.

Sheik is best known for his Grammy-nominated 1996 album 'Barely Breathing' and his Tony-winning score for 'Spring Awakening,' which won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. A new Off-Broadway production of 'Spring Awakening' is set to play Studio Seaview, beginning previews on November 27.

Sheik's family confirmed his hospitalization in a statement, hinting at his condition since late August. Two major Off-Broadway productions featuring his work are scheduled this fall, including a new revival of 'Spring Awakening' opening in December.
