Delhi to Clear Trial Court Backlog with 427 New Posts, Day-to-Day Hearings

In Short: With over 20,000 criminal cases listed before Delhi’s trial courts each day, the government is taking steps to address the backlog by creating 427 new posts for fast track special courts (FTSCs), according to reports.

The Delhi government is also building new courts and creating additional posts, with plans to fill existing vacancies on priority.

Trial courts are now directing accused persons to file affidavits containing relevant details before arguments are heard to expedite proceedings and maintain transparency.
