Anthropic has announced a significant update to its Claude AI assistant, merging the chat and Cowork features into a single interface to streamline user experience. This change follows user feedback indicating frustration with having to choose the right tool for each task.
Claude will now automatically route requests without the need to switch tabs or windows, making it easier for users to work alongside the AI assistant to create sections, ask questions, and comment on completed parts.
The unified interface, rolling out to Claude’s Pro and Max plans first, allows users to access chat, Cowork, and Artifacts within one window. Additionally, Claude Design, introduced in April for website and prototype design, can now be used anywhere within Claude.
Users can also ask Claude to start creating a document on desktop and check the progress using the mobile app. This feature, along with the ability to let Claude choose the kind of Artifact, aims to alleviate decision fatigue.
Anthropic’s move comes as the company faces competition from OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work, which combines its chatbot with its Codex coding tool. The unified interface and new document and presentation tools are expected to help Anthropic attract enterprise customers and non-coders seeking to use AI-powered work tools.
