Anthropic Reveals Claude AI Now Leads 26% of R&D

Anthropic announced that its AI chatbot, Claude, now leads 26% of the company's AI research and development (R&D) work, according to a blog post. The company said Claude can complete most tasks from start to finish based on high-level instructions, with humans primarily supervising.
Claude's involvement in R&D has grown significantly since earlier this year, when it was virtually non-existent. Now, more than 90% of Anthropic's AI R&D involves Claude at least at a collaborative level.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei recently called for a slowdown in AI development, citing concerns about the rapid advancement of the technology. The company stressed that Claude has not reached full autonomy and is still under human supervision.
The firm released these figures to provide clearer insight into the pace of AI advancement, as global leaders debate whether to slow the technology's progress. Anthropic noted that measuring AI's role in R&D could help determine how close the industry is to achieving full autonomy.
In August, Anthropic reported that approximately 30,000 AI agents were doing research and engineering work at the company at any one time on its most-used internal platform.
Anthropic's disclosure comes amid growing concerns about AI security and the potential for AI systems to escape controlled settings without human intervention.
