AnimeJapan Launches New Creator Awards for 2027

AnimeJapan and Crunchyroll announced on Friday that they will begin accepting entries for the 'AnimeJapan New Creator Awards 2027' from October 1, 2023, until February 6, 2024. The competition, which launched in Japan in 2025, is designed to support aspiring animators and filmmakers.

The competition is open to students enrolled in any educational institution in Japan. Entries must be short films of about 15 minutes or less, including opening and ending credits. The AnimeJapan Executive Committee, representing 22 anime companies and one organization, will serve as the judging panel.

The Grand Prix winner will receive one million yen (approximately US$6,419), while the Crunchyroll Award winner will receive a scholarship of the same amount. Winners in four categories—technical application, direction, character design, and art—will each receive 300,000 yen (about US$1,925).

The AnimeJapan Special Award winner will have the opportunity to showcase their short film at domestic and international anime conventions. Additionally, the winner's school will host a seminar led by active creators.

Winners will be announced during AnimeJapan 2027, which will take place at the Intex Osaka convention center in Osaka from March 26 to 28, 2024. The awards ceremony will occur during the public days of the event, either on March 27 or 28.
