Charlotte to Host WTA Finals from 2027

According to reports, the WTA will operate the WTA Finals alongside its current management, with WTA chair Valerie Camillo stating, 'What is most important to know is that we have a clear path to deliver consistent, sustainable financial performance in 2027 and beyond, supported by strong revenue and audience growth.
The WTA Finals, which involve the best eight singles players and doubles teams of the year, will be staged at the Spectrum Centre, home of the Charlotte Hornets. The basketball season will be in full swing next November, leading to a reduction in the tennis event from eight days to five, which is likely to affect revenue.
Charlotte will benefit from financial support from the North Carolina Special Events Fund, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, and the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, along with Charlotte’s corporate community. The event is expected to draw about 80,000 spectators over five days next year.
The relocation of the WTA’s global headquarters to Charlotte is also part of the deal, with Charlotte mayor Rob Harrington stating, 'Charlotte is a global city and having the Women’s Tennis Association headquarters in Charlotte is not only an exciting addition to our roster of corporate headquarters but reflects our city’s growing international reputation.' The city also has plans to host a future WTA 500 tournament after 2029.
