Powerball Jackpot Grows to $271M for Wednesday Drawing
Developing
In Short: The Powerball jackpot has grown to $271 million for the upcoming Wednesday drawing, following the recent claim of a $1.04 billion prize by an anonymous winner.

Illinois Lottery officials announced on September 15 that the winner of the $1.040 billion Powerball jackpot from August 12 had finally claimed the prize, making it one of the game's largest jackpots.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The next drawing will take place on September 19, with live coverage available on Powerball's website and YouTube channel.
Powerball drawings occur every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, and to play, players must select five white-ball numbers from 1 to 69 and one red Powerball number from 1 to 26.
What's still developing
- The ticket holder, who chose to remain anonymous as allowed by state law, claimed one of the game's largest jackpots after weeks of speculation about the winning ticket.
- “Even after claiming the prize, I’m still processing the news and experiencing the full range of emotions that come with winning a billion-dollar jackpot from disbelief and shock to overwhelming elation," the winner said in a statement released by Powerball.
