In Short: Community members in Kansas City are being trained to take notes at public meetings, contributing to scientific research on cosmic phenomena.

According to new research led by the California Institute of Technology, Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) could help map matter clustering in large cosmic structures, providing additional clues about the evolution of the universe.

To support this research, The Beacon, in collaboration with City Bureau in Chicago, is training and paying community members to take notes at public meetings in Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri.

Community members earn $20 an hour for attending a public meeting and taking detailed notes, which are then shared with fellow citizens.

The initiative aims to ensure that the voices of the community are heard and contribute to the broader scientific understanding of the cosmos.
