The 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) has finalized the jury members for its prestigious awards, including the Mecenat, Sonje, Netpac, and Fipresci Awards. According to Variety, the Sonje Award, which honors an outstanding Korean or Asian short film, will be judged by Anuparna Roy, Abinash Bikram Shah, and Lee Ranhee. Roy and Shah have both achieved success in their respective fields, with Roy’s films “Songs of Forgotten Trees” and “Lovers in the Blue Night” winning awards at Venice, and Shah’s film “Elephants in the Fog” winning the Jury Prize at Cannes.
The Netpac Award, presented by the Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema, will be judged by Nina Kochelyaeva, Matthew Poon, and Lee Dongha. Lee, the CEO of Redpeter Films and chairperson of the Producers Guild of Korea, has a long history of producing critically acclaimed films, including “Poetry,” “Hwayi: A Monster Boy,” and “Train to Busan.” The Fipresci Award, given to a film for artistic achievement, will be judged by Ma Xingxu, Teresa Vena, and Roh Chul-hwan. Vena, who trained in history, art history, and Spanish philology, has built a career in art and film, and takes on jury and programming work at international festivals.
The Sonje Award will be decided by Anuparna Roy, Abinash Bikram Shah, and Lee Ranhee, with Roy and Shah having achieved success in their respective fields. The Netpac Award will be judged by Nina Kochelyaeva, Matthew Poon, and Lee Dongha, with Lee having a long history of producing critically acclaimed films. The Fipresci Award will be judged by Ma Xingxu, Teresa Vena, and Roh Chul-hwan, with Vena having a career in art and film and taking on jury and programming work at international festivals.
