Volvo’s plug-in hybrid XC60 and XC90 can really go the distance
Confirmed
In Short: Volvo has unveiled its updated PHEV versions of the XC60 and XC90, promising class-leading ranges of 78 and 73 miles, respectively. These new models are part of Volvo's strategy to boost hybrid sales and fund future electric vehicles like the EX50 and EX60.

The XC60 is getting new styling to bring it inline with Volvo’s new design language, while the XC90 receives similar updates. Production begins late Fall 2026, with deliveries set for early 2027. Volvo hopes these updates will push the limits of what’s possible in plug-in hybrid technology.
The automaker’s updated PHEVs feature bigger batteries, giving them the longest electric range of any plug-in hybrid on the market. Most PHEVs today offer an average of around 30-50 miles of battery-only range, but Volvo’s new models exceed this significantly.
According to Volvo, the new XC60 T8 features a 37.9 kWh (net) battery pack, providing an electric driving range of 78 miles, enough for three days of daily driving based on the median US Volvo driver commute of 22 miles round-trip.
