In Short: A statement from Donald Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina revealed that a Russian oligarch with close ties to Putin funded part of their recent wedding festivities.

A post on their Instagram account stated that two nights of their three-day wedding celebrations on a private island in the Bahamas were partially funded by Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch with close ties to Putin. The couple expressed gratitude for the generous gift.

Kremlev also paid for a fireworks display costing approximately $70,000, according to ProPublica. The report noted that Kremlev attended part of the wedding and was part of a delegation that visited China with Putin earlier this year.

Libowitz of CREW suggested that either Donald Trump or his son could have paid for the full wedding to avoid a conflict of interest. The couple's wedding and subsequent celebration took place on a private island in the Bahamas, with the second island renting for about $100,000 per night.

According to the ProPublica article, the couple expressed their gratitude for the generous gift, stating, 'It was an extraordinarily generous wedding gift from a friend, and something for which we were and remain incredibly grateful.
