Planting Trees in Wrong Places Not a Climate Solution, Court Says

The Indian Supreme Court has observed that while introducing a tree-planting policy is not inherently problematic, the manner in which it is being implemented is a cause for concern, according to reports from The Indian Express and Dailyexcelsior.
In a recent ruling, the court stressed the need to find solutions to issues arising from the policy, particularly regarding the introduction of the CBSE’s three-language policy for Class 9 students, which the court noted should not put children under pressure.
The court’s comments come as a proposed rule change regarding climate pollution from power plants could be announced soon, potentially reversing efforts by Democratic presidents to address environmental concerns, according to Planetdetroit.
Environmental advocates warn that tearing down national protections against climate pollution from power plants will have significant impacts on public health and safety, as noted by Vickie Patton, general counsel for the Environmental Defense Fund.

- It observed that while there was nothing wrong in introducing the policy, the only concern of the petitioners was the manner in which it was being introduced.
- “You may revisit some of these problems. There is no doubt that sooner or later, it has to be introduced; there is nothing wrong with that. But how it is to be streamlined so that whatever impediments or blockades are coming up, you may find a solution to those,” the bench had said.
