Developing
In Short: IIT Madras is set to launch AI Studio, a new initiative aimed at converting AI, machine learning, and data science research into viable startups.
The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has announced the launch of AI Studio, a new venture-backed initiative designed to help researchers and entrepreneurs transform their AI, machine learning, and data science research into successful startups. According to The Indian Express, the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI (WSAI) at IIT Madras will officially unveil the studio later this week.
The AI Studio program is open to a diverse range of participants, including IIT Madras and WSAI researchers, academic founders from other institutions, and external entrepreneurs with AI, machine learning, or data science ideas. The initiative aims to support these teams in developing their research or early-stage ideas into fully-fledged businesses. This process includes validating the market demand for the product, further developing the venture, and preparing it for funding and eventual incorporation into IIT Madras's incubation ecosystem.
A smaller number of ventures will be selected for the full AI Studio program, which will run two cohorts each year. Applications for the program will open in both winter and spring cycles. The studio will provide a structured environment for participants to refine their ideas and prepare them for the challenges of the startup world. By supporting the development of these ventures, IIT Madras hopes to contribute to the growth of the AI and data science ecosystem in India.
The institute's incubation network has already supported hundreds of deep-tech startups, which have a combined valuation of $8 billion and have created more than 11,000 direct jobs. The launch of AI Studio is expected to further enhance this ecosystem, providing additional resources and support to researchers and entrepreneurs looking to turn their ideas into successful businesses.
