Gurgaon Driver Accused of Hit-and-Run Attempts to Escape After Arrest

A gym owner and former kabaddi player, Kalyan Bainsla, 33, who was arrested for allegedly hitting a woman biker with his car in Gurgaon, attempted to escape custody and fled the scene, according to police. Bainsla, who was arrested along with his cousin, has been booked in an attempt to murder case and other charges have been added.
Following the incident, which was captured on dashcam and helmet-cam footage and went viral, Bainsla gave interviews to television channels to present his version, allegedly switched off his mobile phone, and fled to evade arrest. He sustained injuries during his escape bid and was provided primary treatment at a hospital.
The police took suo motu cognizance of the case after the purported videos of the Golf Course Road hit-and-run incident were widely shared, showing a 27-year-old woman biker, Shivani Chauhan, getting rammed by a speeding car. Bainsla, who hails from Chandhat in Haryana’s Palwal, tried to escape during the custody transit.
Along with Bainsla, the police also arrested his cousin, Lovenish Gurjar, 34, who was accompanying him at the time of the incident. The police seized the white Maruti Suzuki Ciaz used by Bainsla, which is registered in the name of an associate, an Army personnel currently posted in Assam.
