Apple TV has announced that the critically acclaimed series Slow Horses will continue for at least two more seasons, with its eighth season adapting author Mick Herron’s novel Clown Town. The news comes after the series went one-for-five at last night’s 78th Annual Emmy Awards, but apparently, that was enough to secure its future.
Series creator Will Smith has officially departed the show, handing showrunner duties over to Gaby Chiappe for the upcoming sixth season and Ben Vanstone for the seventh. Gary Oldman will lead the Slow Horses gang as Jackson Lamb, the brilliant yet rude and disheveled leader of this ragtag group of antiheroes.
Olivia Cooke, who played Sid in the first season of Slow Horses, is returning to the show after a four-year absence. The sixth season will adapt not one but two of Herron's action-packed novels — Joe Country (2019) and Slough House (2021) — and will feature six episodes in total, running weekly until Wednesday, October 21.
Slow Horses is making its exciting sixth-season return this week on September 16. The cynical head of Slough House, Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), faces a targeted list looking to wipe out his entire team. The series is already earning plenty of critical praise, scoring a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and being called an 'even twistier and more unpredictable' season.
According to reports, the seventh season, based on the eighth novel 'Bad Actors,' will begin filming in October 2025, even though it won’t go to air until Fall 2027. The complete episodic release schedule for Slow Horses season 6 is as follows: Episode 1: Circle of Life – Sept. 16; Episode 2: Daddy Issues – Sept. 23; Episode 3: Resurrection – Sept. 30; Episode 4: Lost & Found – Oct. 7; Episode 5: Sayonara – Oct. 14; Episode 6: Judgment Day – Oct. 21.

- Whoever takes the reins after that is anyone’s guess, but the newly greenlit Season 8 is at least guaranteed perennial Emmy nominee Gary Oldman in the lead.
