Each year, the AbSciCon Poster Competition honors outstanding research by early-career scientists dedicated to understanding life's place in the universe. This year's competition, which drew 63 participants from universities and research institutions, showcased a wide range of cutting-edge studies.

One of the key findings presented was that the roughest areas on Mercury have fewer visible wrinkles, suggesting that surface roughness can obscure signs of planetary contraction. This research, presented by a team of early-career scientists, highlights the importance of considering surface characteristics in planetary studies.

According to reports, the competition aims to support and promote the work of early-career scientists by providing a platform for them to present their research and network with peers and mentors in the field.

The winning poster, titled 'Underestimation of Planetary Contraction Due To Obscuration by Surface Roughness: The Case of Mercury,' was selected for its innovative approach to understanding Mercury's geological features and their impact on planetary science.
