Tennessee Tight End Ethan Davis Suffers Season-Ending ACL Injury

Confirmed

Sports Desk

In Short: Tennessee tight end Ethan Davis will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his ACL during a game against Georgia Tech.

Leading the Vols' tight end corps, Ethan Davis, a 6-foot-5, 247-pounder from Atlanta, sustained the injury in a 45-24 victory at Georgia Tech. Davis, who had been off to a strong start to the season, was the unquestioned top tight end in the room given his experience. His best two games of the previous season came when he was the primary target, posting 21 receptions for 257 yards and two touchdowns in nine games.

Coach Josh Heupel confirmed the news on Monday, stating, 'Ethan Davis, ACL injury, will be gone for the remainder of the year.' Davis had recorded 39 receptions for 433 yards and six scores in 26 games since making his Tennessee debut in 2023. His contributions were significant, blocking, running routes, and giving quarterback Faizon Brandon a big, trusted target in the middle of the field.

Next in line for the Vols at tight end will be sophomore DaSaahn Brame and senior Trent Thomas, who spent his first three seasons at South Alabama. Davis's absence will be felt, as he was developing a strong bond with the Vols' new starting quarterback and had touchdowns in consecutive weeks.

According to reports, Davis missed most of preseason camp with an ankle injury, then worked his way back for the opener. His reliable presence on the field was crucial, and his injury is a significant blow to the team's offensive strategy. Davis's injury is a setback for the Vols, who will now turn to a group of relatively inexperienced tight ends to fill the void.

His teammates and coaches will miss his contributions, and his injury is a reminder of the fragility of the sport. Tennessee will have to adapt quickly to the loss, relying on the remaining tight ends to step up and fill the gap left by Davis's absence.
