Definium’s LSD Therapy Eases Anxiety in Second Large Trial

Definium Therapeutics announced on Monday that its LSD therapy, DT120, successfully reduced anxiety in a second late-stage clinical trial, setting the stage for potential regulatory approval of the first psychedelic drug for anxiety treatment.

In the 12-week trial, patients who received a 100-microgram dose of DT120 experienced a 9.8-point drop on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, compared to a 4.7-point drop for those on placebo. The difference of 5.1 points is comparable to the company's previous trial and surpasses the effects observed with many other anxiety therapies.

According to Definium, the rapid onset of benefits from DT120 is a key advantage over traditional treatments like antidepressants, which often take weeks to show efficacy. Patients in the latest trial reported changes as early as the second day after dosing.

The positive results from this trial, combined with similar findings from the first late-stage study, suggest that Definium is well-positioned to seek regulatory approval for DT120. This could mark a significant milestone in the acceptance of psychedelic therapies for mental health conditions.

While the results are promising, the company acknowledges that it is challenging to compare results across studies due to varying methodologies and patient populations. Nonetheless, the efficacy observed in these trials is considered a breakthrough in the field of anxiety treatment.
