Woman Killed, 2 Injured in Militant Attack in Manipur’s Tamenglong District

In Short: A Kuki woman was killed and her husband and infant son injured in a suspected militant attack in Tollenin, Tamenglong district, on Black Day, a day commemorating past violence.

Security sources in Imphal reported that the attack occurred around 4 a.m. at the residence in a predominantly Kuki village near National Highway-37, which connects Imphal with Jiribam.
Guwahati-based reports stated that suspected armed militants opened fire on the home, killing a woman and injuring her husband and infant son.
Security forces, including personnel from the Assam Rifles stationed nearby at Kaimai, rushed to the village, provided medical assistance, and evacuated the injured father and son towards Jiribam for treatment.
The Kaimai Village Authority condemned the attack, terming it a deliberate attempt to foster division and discord among communities.

- During the early hours of Tuesday, September 1, three Liangmai Naga villages were attacked by unidentified miscreants in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
- As per the Makui Village Authority, this armed attack was carried out by Kuki militants, but an official confirmation of the identity of the attackers is yet to come from the police.
- As per the village authority, it came under heavy attack at around 8 AM on Tuesday, and it has alleged that the armed attack was carried out by NSCN-IM cadres and ZUF-K, and the village was damaged as even bombs were thrown.
- The attack followed just a day after three Kuki civilians, including two women, were killed, and four others were injured during an attack on the Teikhang Kuki village in Kangpokpi itself.
