President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could stay in Iran and 'keep the oil,' drawing a parallel to Washington's push to control a fifth of Venezuela's oil reserves. During his recent visit to Ireland, Trump indicated that he still expects the Iran war to end this year, possibly after the U.S. midterm elections in November.
According to reports, Trump stated, 'We’ll ultimately get out (of Iran), unless we decide to stay and keep the oil like Venezuela,' while speaking at the Irish Open golf championship.
Meanwhile, tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have risen, with an Iranian cargo vessel reportedly struck off Qeshm Island, and a planned meeting between Iran and Gulf countries in Oman to discuss agreements on the Strait of Hormuz has been postponed.
