Uttarakhand Raises MBBS Interns' Stipend to Rs 25,000

The Uttarakhand Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to increase the monthly honorarium for MBBS interns in government medical colleges to Rs 25,000 from Rs 17,000, officials said.
State Director General of Information Banshidhar Tiwari stated that the honorarium for MBBS interns, previously Rs 17,000 per month, has been raised to Rs 25,000.
Health and medical education minister Sakina assured that monthly stipend would be revised.
The state government said the stipend increase would provide greater financial support to interns during their compulsory clinical training.
The move is also expected to encourage interns to play a greater role in patient care at government hospitals.

- Tiwari noted that five government medical colleges are operational in Uttarakhand, located in Srinagar, Haldwani, Dehradun, Haridwar, and Almora, where MBBS and postgraduate courses are conducted.

- The revised stipend will be applicable to students who have completed their MBBS or BDS examinations and are undertaking their compulsory rotatory internship at government-run medical institutions.
- Interns are also required to undertake night duties as part of their practical training.
- As part of the internship, students receive hands-on clinical training while working alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals.
- The demonstration was held at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on August 22, with interns from KGMU, Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Lucknow, BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur and Lala Lajpat Rai Medical College in Meerut, among other institutions, participating in the protest.
- The revised stipend is also expected to bring Uttar Pradesh closer to the stipend levels offered to medical interns in several other states and central institutions.
