A trespasser tried to enter Kamala Harris' cliffside home in Malibu on Friday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and a Harris spokesman. The incident occurred while Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were not at home, as reported by Eduardo Negrón, a Harris spokesperson.
Security personnel stopped the individual before they could reach the home, according to Jason Duron, a watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station. The California Highway Patrol assisted Harris' security detail, though its officers were not on-site at the time.
Harris and Emhoff's level of security has been previously scrutinized, with President Trump revoking an extension in August 2025, leading to increased protection efforts by local law enforcement agencies. Neither Harris nor Emhoff were at the residence during the incident, according to a spokesperson.
In January 2025, two individuals were detained during curfew hours at Harris's former home in Brentwood following reports of a possible burglary, according to KTLA. Harris and Emhoff purchased their Malibu home within the last year.
