The incident occurred when the teacher entered a live stream on Twitch and communicated with a child, instructing them to remove their shorts, which the child did, exposing themselves on camera, the Oldham Times reported. The teacher described the exchange as a 'joke' and 'trolling' and claimed he did not intend to gain sexual gratification or start a personal relationship with the child, the Oldham Times reported.
Liam Quinn, 32, was suspended as an IT and Computing teacher at Audenshaw School, Greater Manchester, amid a police probe in April 2020 and was subsequently sacked the next month. The misconduct panel heard that Quinn had accepted a conditional caution from Greater Manchester Police for causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity on March 27, 2020, the Oldham Times reported.
The panel concluded that Quinn's actions represented a serious breach of the teachers’ standards and statutory safeguarding guidance, and he was banned from teaching for life, the Oldham Times reported. During an interview with Greater Manchester Police, Quinn claimed he had initially treated the exchange as a 'stupid joke' and an attempt to provoke a reaction and be banned from the platform, the Independent reported.
