Searchlight Pictures has announced a sequel to the 2005 holiday film 'The Family Stone,' with nearly the entire original cast reuniting for another chaotic holiday season. The film, which follows Everett Stone (Dermot Mulroney) as he brings his uptight girlfriend Meredith (Sarah Jessica Parker) home to meet his liberal, bohemian New England family, has become a cult favorite. According to reports, the sequel will see the Stone family reuniting for another holiday season, with Tom Bezucha returning to direct from his own script.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in July, Luke Wilson, who plays Ben Stone, opened up about his reaction to reading the script and how the sequel will honor Diane Keaton, who passed away in October 2025 at the age of 79. 'It was a very emotional experience to read the script, and I'm excited to see how the story will evolve,' Wilson said. 'We're honoring Diane's legacy by bringing the Stone family back together for another holiday adventure.
The cast for the sequel includes Claire Danes as Julie Morton, Rachel McAdams as Amy Stone, Dermot Mulroney as Everett Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton, Luke Wilson as Ben Stone, Tyrone Giordano as Thad Stone, Elizabeth Reaser as Susannah Stone, Paul Schneider as Brad Stevenson, and Brian White as Patrick Thomas. The Stone family is reuniting for another holiday season, with much of the original cast set to return.
Original producer Michael London is back to produce alongside Shannon Gaulding for Groundswell Productions, along with Parker and Alison Benson for Pretty Matches Productions. The film, which celebrates its 20th anniversary last year, was nominated for a Golden Globe for Parker's performance. Tom Bezucha, who wrote and directed the original film, will return to write and direct the sequel.
Bezucha first revealed that he was working on a sequel a month after Keaton's passing. 'It was a difficult decision to make, but I felt it was important to honor Diane's legacy and bring the Stone family back together for another holiday adventure,' Bezucha said.
