Scrubs & Beyond, a nationwide healthcare uniform retailer, is closing all of its more than 100 retail stores across 30 states, according to reports. The company, which sells nurse scrubs and uniforms from top brands, including its own Beyond Scrubs line, is now holding going-out-of-business sales with discounts ranging from 20% to 40% off all merchandise.
The Scottsdale, Arizona-based Kindthread acquired and relaunched the Scrubs & Beyond brand and stores in 2022, the Post Bulletin newspaper reported. The company became the largest retailer of healthcare apparel and accessories in the country during its operation, but the reasons for its closure remain unclear.
Local business owners are expressing concern over the impact of the closures. Josefina Aguirre, a first-generation American whose family has run its NYC grocery store for nearly 30 years, says Mamdani’s city-run stores could threaten her livelihood and ultimately force her family out of business. Aguirre is among the neighborhood grocers suing Mamdani over his plan to open city-backed grocery stores across all five boroughs.
Scrubs & Beyond's website now features a red banner announcing the closure of all retail stores, with no reason given and no announced closing date. The Waite Park store, where many central Minnesota nurses and medical workers buy their scrubs, is part of the nationwide shutdown. Employees in the Rochester store have been told not to discuss the closing, and a liquidation firm is already working inside the Rochester store.
The company operates more than 115 stores in 30 states and calls itself the largest seller of health care apparel in the country. The closures come as many of the stores are holding going-out-of-business sales with discounts ranging from 20% to 40% off all merchandise.
