The new series, planned as a season-by-season adaptation of the seven novels, aims to give each book significantly more space than it received on the big screen. Oldman notes that the original movies had to condense the story dramatically, often cutting to fit a runtime of around two-and-a-half to three hours.
Oldman’s comments align with the series’ approach, which is to follow the books pretty much word-for-word, a format he believes will be more satisfying for viewers. While the series has not yet announced who will take over the role of Sirius Black, Oldman’s future involvement with the franchise remains uncertain.
