The Election Commission met both factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday, seeking more documents from the rebel camp led by Ritabrata Banerjee, as the fight for the party’s organizational control and claim to its name and symbol intensified.
According to The Indian Express, the commission had many queries and asked for documents, which the TMC faction led by Mamata Banerjee agreed to provide.
Mamata Banerjee, in a statement, accused the rebel faction of being traitors and noted that all MLAs who contested elections on the TMC ticket received Rs 25 lakh from the party.
The commission established that internal elections have been held every five years to elect the chairperson and subsequently the national working committee, in 2006, 2011, 2017, and 2022.

- The Mamata Banerjee-led faction was represented by Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien and four others, while Ritabrata himself represented his faction before the Election Commission of India.
