Courteney Cox, known for her role as Gale Weathers in the Scream franchise, is considering directing the next installment in the series. According to reports, Cox, who has been with the franchise since its inception in 1996, believes she should take on the role. "I think I should, honestly. Nobody knows more about that movie than I do," Cox said in an interview with Deadline.
The Scream franchise, which has seen several directors over the years, is currently without a director for its eighth installment. Original Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson took over directing duties for Scream 7 but has stated he won't return for the next film. This leaves the door open for Cox to direct Scream 8, a prospect that has garnered support from fans and critics alike. "With Scream 8 still without an announced director, the timing certainly works," said Cox in an interview with Dread Central.
Cox's acting career has eclipsed her work as a director, but her involvement in the Scream franchise could change that. "I think it’d be great and fun and a good publicity thing," Cox said. "And, she talks about her directing influences, and what she took away from being directed by Brian De Palma in Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Dancing in the Dark’ video," according to IndieWire. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the future of the franchise, Cox remains open to the possibility of directing Scream 8.
