The BRICS nations, including India, adopted a declaration at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, condemning the Pahalgam terror attack and calling for concerted actions against all forms of terrorism. The declaration, which was unanimously adopted, emphasized zero tolerance for terrorism and rejected double standards in countering the menace.
The bloc called for dialogue and multilateralism, reaffirming their commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, including the cross-border movement of terrorists, terrorism financing, and safe havens. The BRICS nations also urged the expeditious finalization and adoption of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism in the UN framework.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the adoption of the declaration at the end of the opening day's deliberations at the two-day summit, which is being hosted by India. The BRICS nations also condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people were killed and many more injured.
The declaration emphasized that it is the primary responsibility of states in combating terrorism and that global efforts to prevent and counter terrorist threats must fully comply with their obligations under international law, including the Charter of the UN. The BRICS nations also called for concerted actions against all UN-designated terrorists and terrorist entities.
