A tourist coach carrying 48 Dutch nationals has crashed in the Swiss Alps, leaving several people dead and several injured, local police say. The coach reportedly left the Netherlands on Monday and was on a day trip to Switzerland from Austria when the accident occurred.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin expressed his shock and offered condolences to the families of the victims, stating that a thorough investigation will be conducted. The coach, belonging to the tour operator Oad, was traveling from Zernez towards Susch in canton Graubünden when it collided with a crash barrier.
A large team of rescuers equipped with several helicopters was deployed to the scene. Images show the coach lying on its side beside a narrow country road, with numerous ambulances and groups of rescuers working at the site. The crash occurred on Thursday afternoon between the villages of Susch and Zernez in the Alpine canton of Graubünden.
The relevant Swiss authorities will ensure a comprehensive and thorough investigation to shed light on all the circumstances of the accident, according to Parmelin. The Dutch Federation of Travel Agencies (ANVR) confirmed the number of passengers on the coach.
