Telangana police have solved a high-security weapons heist from the Secunderabad Cantonment near Hyderabad, recovering the stolen items and apprehending four suspects. The heist, which involved twelve weapons including assault rifles and pistols, was discovered on August 31 when the weapons and ammunition were not accounted for at the end of the previous day’s shift.
According to a senior police officer, the Kote, or Keeper of Technical Equipment, and Battalion Magazine were last physically accounted for at 6 pm on August 30. The officer noted that the Kote is always guarded, and the guards did not report any break-in. The investigation revealed that the stolen weapons and ammunition were not maintained in the records of the armoury.
Earlier reports indicated that senior Army officers questioned a senior officer from the 20 Madras Regiment in connection with the arms heist. The case was cracked by a joint operation involving Military Intelligence and the Telangana police Task Force, which traced the weapons to a location in Hyderabad and recovered a cache in Nagarkurnool district.
The four suspects, including one person from Nagarkurnool and three others from different places, are currently being questioned about their roles in removing, transporting, and hiding the weapons. The exact number of recovered weapons will be announced after verification.
