Telangana police have solved the Secunderabad Cantonment arms heist, recovering twelve weapons including four AK-203 assault rifles, seven pistols, and an INSAS rifle. The theft was last accounted for at 6 pm on August 30, before the closing of the Kote – Keeper of Technical Equipment – and Battalion Magazine.
According to a senior police officer, the Kote is always guarded, and the guards did not witness any break-in. Records from the armoury showed that the weapons were not maintained, suggesting irregularities. Senior Army officers have questioned a senior officer from the 20 Madras Regiment in connection with the heist.
The Indian Express reports that the Telangana police have traced the weapons to a location in Hyderabad and confirmed that the heist was an inside job. The police have also questioned the officer involved.
