Priest Recalls 9/11 Response at Ground Zero

In Short: Twenty-five years after the attacks, a priest recounts his immediate rush to the scene and the calls that flooded a local newsroom.
Twenty-five years later, Jay LaScolea, a reporter for WENY News, vividly remembers the chaotic calls that came into the station on September 11, 2001. 'They hadn't found them since the towers collapsed, and they were all over lower Manhattan,' LaScolea recounted. He quickly headed to Washington Square Park, just over a mile north of Ground Zero.
Meanwhile, Vincent Euk, a visiting priest, felt an urgent need to reach the scene. He hitched a ride on an ambulance to Ground Zero after the planes hit, driven by an immediate impulse to be there. 'I felt an immediate impulse to head down to the site, so I left a visiting priest to cover the hospital for emergencies,' Euk said.
