Ocean Way Festival Canceled Due to Beach Erosion

The Ocean Way Festival, a music event set to debut in Santa Monica, has been canceled just weeks before its planned debut. According to a news release from the city of Santa Monica and event producer Goldenvoice, the beach can no longer accommodate the festival's production and audience capacity safely.
The festival, which was scheduled to feature artists like The Killers and Olivia Dean, was set for September 26-27. However, a large south swell generated by Hurricane Marie and runoff from a storm drain outfall eroded a portion of the festival site over Labor Day weekend. The site, located south of the Santa Monica Pier, was deemed unsafe for the event.
Organizers of the festival, which is produced by Goldenvoice, the same company behind Coachella and Stagecoach, stated on social media that plans are already underway to bring the festival to Santa Monica in 2027. "We were so excited to spend a weekend together on The Beach, but can share that plans are already underway to bring the festival to Santa Monica in 2027!" the organizers wrote.
Goldenvoice, known for its rich history in the music industry, had previously expressed excitement about the festival, stating, "Santa Monica has an incredible music history, and Goldenvoice has been fortunate to be part of that story. From legendary shows at the Civic Auditorium to the origins of Ocean Way Recording just steps from the beach, there’s a creative legacy here that’s unlike anywhere else," according to a statement by Goldenvoice VP of regional festivals Nic Adler.
The cancellation comes as a disappointment to fans who were looking forward to seeing artists like The Killers and Olivia Dean perform. The festival was set to feature a lineup that also included Southern California favorites Sublime and Durand Jones and the Indications. Ticket prices ranged from single day four packs for $189 to premium weekend passes for more than $700. Fans will be refunded for their tickets, according to a message from AXS.
