Kerala has launched the country’s first Elder-Friendly Office Certification (EFOC) to make government offices and other public institutions more convenient for senior citizens, according to a release from The Indian Express.
Under the EFOC, offices will be evaluated against clear, common standards and awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze certificates based on their performance.
The certification system aims to address common issues faced by senior citizens, such as long queues, stairs without handrails, small print in forms, and counters requiring climbing stairs.
Evaluation will be conducted in five key areas: building accessibility, service delivery, staff training and conduct, communication, and participation. Some facilities will be compulsory for certification, and an office will not receive a certificate if it fails to meet any of these mandatory requirements, even if its overall score is high.
What's still developing
- An office scoring 85 per cent or above, with no domain below 60 per cent, will receive a Gold certificate.
