Israeli President Isaac Herzog published a video statement on Thursday, wishing Jews in Israel and around the world a happy New Year ahead of Rosh Hashanah, according to Israel National News and JNS.org.
In his message, Herzog highlighted the shofar as the 'defining sound of Rosh Hashanah,' capturing a range of emotions, including pain over those lost to terrorism and antisemitism, as well as pride in Jewish communities and the state of Israel.
He called for Jews to enter the new year with a sense of pride, a commitment to action, and respect for one another, emphasizing the shofar's message of confronting challenges and improving the world, particularly during difficult times.
Herzog also pointed to the Voice of the People initiative, which he founded, and highlighted the responsibility of young Jews in making the world a better place, as seen in their sense of responsibility toward the Jewish people.
