Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta has revealed that his team was already prepared for the travel disruption they faced this week, having simulated unexpected delays and sabotaged their plans in pre-season. According to reports, Arteta deliberately disrupted some of Arsenal’s pre-season preparations to ensure the team could adapt to unforeseen situations.

Arteta even went as far as forcing his team to adapt to a dressing room that was too hot or where there were not enough massage beds, according to The Independent. This preparation came after Gabriel Jesus made critical comments about his summer departure from Arsenal, stating he was made to train away from the first team without any explanation from the club.

Despite the travel disruption, Arsenal’s flight to Naples for their Champions League game against Napoli was delayed by several hours due to widespread air traffic control issues in the UK. The disruption also caused Arteta’s pre-match press conference to be cancelled, highlighting the impact of the travel chaos.

Arteta expressed his surprise at Jesus' comments, stating, 'Very surprised, to be fair,' during his pre-match press conference before Arsenal’s Premier League trip to Sunderland. He added, 'The truth is, I was training, I did the entire pre-season normally with Arsenal.' The coach hopes that players like Jesus and Martinelli will learn from these experiences and adapt better in the future.

Arteta took the time to see his former teammates in the dressing room after the match, showing a personal touch and a commitment to team bonding. He emphasized, 'What's important is what happens three months later, six months later,' indicating his focus on long-term team development rather than immediate reactions to the travel disruption.
