U2 Named MusiCares 2027 Persons of the Year

U2 has been named the MusiCares Persons of the Year for 2027, with the band stating, 'We are huge fans of MusiCares and the lifelines they provide across the incredible pool of talent that is the music industry.' The honor will be celebrated at a new location, the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, on February 5, 2027, two nights before the Grammys.
The 36th annual Persons of the Year benefit gala will mark U2's recognition, following Bono's individual honor in 2003. MusiCares is also introducing a new way for fans to experience the celebration, and the event will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the band's formation in Dublin in 1976.
Theresa Wolters, executive director of MusiCares, noted, 'Throughout their career, U2 has demonstrated the extraordinary power of music to bring people together, draw attention to urgent needs and inspire action.' Previous recipients of the honor include Jon Bon Jovi, Berry Gordy, Joni Mitchell, Mariah Carey, and the Grateful Dead, with Bono being the only previous band member to receive the award individually.
MusiCares, presented under the auspices of the Recording Academy, has raised over $100 million to assist musicians and industry workers in times of need, including addiction recovery and disaster relief. The gala will recognize U2's artistic legacy and their charitable work, marking a significant milestone in the band's history and the organization's 50-year journey.
