The CDC and FDA have announced a new Salmonella outbreak linked to broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, affecting 22 people in four states. So far, two patients have been hospitalized, with 16 cases reported in Washington state, four in Montana, and one each in Idaho and Utah.
Consumers are advised to discard any sprouts matching the description provided by the CDC. Health officials have not confirmed where the contaminated broccoli sprouts were sold, but they were available in select grocery stores and food co-ops in Idaho, Montana, and Washington.
Evergreen Fresh Sprouts has recalled select packages of fresh broccoli sprouts sold in plastic bags and plastic clamshell containers, with expiration dates of September 7, 9, 11, 14, and 16. Health officials have not confirmed the specific locations where the contaminated sprouts were sold.
In other food outbreak news, the CDC added 1,150 Cyclospora cases to the US total, bringing the caseload to 19,595 infections. The Washington State Department of Health confirmed this outbreak is unrelated to the recent multistate Salmonella and E. coli cases.
