According to reports, the aircraft, which appeared to be a Boeing 767 operated by 21 Air, a cargo carrier with an operations center in Miami, overran the runway around 2 p.m. local time after landing from San Juan, Puerto Rico. Units arrived to find an airplane on fire, with heavy flames and smoke showing, and more than 60 fire units responded to the scene to put out the fire and assess patients.
Kelly Nantel, an Amazon spokesperson, stated, 'This is a fast-moving situation and we’re still gathering details.' Amazon is 'doing everything we can to support those affected,' the statement continued. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident, noting that the aircraft overran the runway and struck multiple vehicles on a road surrounding the airport.
