UK airports are facing new flight delays and cancellations after air traffic control services experienced technical issues, impacting Heathrow and Gatwick. According to reports, NATS, the air traffic control service, is working to resolve the problem, but hundreds of flights have already been delayed or canceled. Meanwhile, Manchester Airport and other major hubs are advising passengers to check their flight statuses before traveling.
Earlier this week, aviation workers in Kenya reached a return-to-work agreement after a two-day strike at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, though this did not affect the current UK situation. The industrial action caused widespread delays and cancellations, stranding hundreds of passengers at various Kenyan airports.
Passengers on social media reported potential delays, with Heathrow Airport warning that departing flights were temporarily grounded due to the technical issue. NATS, the air traffic control service, acknowledged the problem, stating that the issue was in their flight processing system and that engineers were working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
Travelers are advised to monitor their flight statuses and prepare for potential delays. Heathrow Airport noted that arriving flights were not currently impacted, but the situation remains fluid. The ongoing disruption is causing significant inconvenience for travelers, for which NATS expressed sincere apologies.

- The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) announced Tuesday that its members would resume normal duties immediately following overnight negotiations with the Ministry of Transport, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Jambojet.
- RwandAir, for example, canceled flights WB452 and WB453 on Aug. 31, citing operational constraints affecting air-traffic-control services at JKIA.
- Reuters reported that airlines operating in Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Somalia also adjusted schedules during the disruption.
- Hundreds of passengers were stranded at JKIA, while disruptions also affected Moi International Airport in Mombasa, Eldoret International Airport and Kisumu International Airport.
- The agreement also provides for the Kenya Airports Authority to remit agency fees owed to the union and includes commitments on the treatment of workers who participated in the industrial action.
